Face lift surgery – after the procedure

Because face lift surgeries are performed so often nowadays and surgeons are getting better at it, these procedures may be performed under local anesthesia in a surgeon's office. Great news for people like me who do not want to go to the hospital! Another plus to this is since the face lift surgery is not performed in the hospital, you will not have to pay for the hospital operating room and anesthesiologist. This means a substantial cost savings to you. Your face is bandaged after the procedure and you may experience bruising and swelling for a few days. You may experience discomfort, but not pain, after the face lift surgery. Please be advised that your surgeon can prescribe oral sedative medications to alleviate the discomfort. Your surgeon will want to see you after about a week to make sure that you are healing properly, remove the sutures, and to place a removable bandage on your wounds.

Face Lift Surgery – a lesser option

Instead of the traditional face lift surgery, some knowledgeable surgeons around the world perform a technique called a "Mini Lift". This is for people whose facial skin isn't that loose or whose sagging is relatively minor. These same people can look in the mirror, just tug a little at their facial problem areas and they like
what they see. The Mini Lift is performed on patents who do not need formal face lift surgery, or who do not want to go under deep anesthesia. The Mini Lift is
performed under local anesthesia and usually takes less than four hours to complete. It can tighten the skin around the lower face and upper neck, which results in a more youthful appearance.

Face lift surgery – Are you a good candidate?

Face lift surgery, Hollywood stars and pampered socialites aren't the only ones getting this type of procedure. Among the good candidates for face lift surgeries
are people of good health. People who want face lift surgery are often bothered by loose skin and sagging around the upper neck and lower part of their face. Some people also have excess skin around the jawline, also known as "jowling". Another aspect of age gives people deep smile lines, also known as nasolabial folds.. Face lift surgery usually doesn't treat nasolabial folds, it is more suited to treatment with injections of a substance such as Botox. Another type of face lift surgery is known as rhinoplasty, which reshapes the nose. Generally people of all ages want rhinoplasty, not just older individuals.

Face Lift Surgery as an Outpatient

Some face lift surgeries are performed as an outpatient. In other words, you will not have to stay overnight at the hospital, you can go home a few hours after the
face lift surgery. Leaps and bounds have been made in the medical profession in that these same face lift surgeries which are performed under local anesthesia, would have taken up to eight hours just a few years ago. Make sure that someone can drive you to and from the surgery because you cannot operate a vehicle after face life surgery. It would also be helpful if that person can stay with you a few hours after surgery to make sure you are comfortable and to help you with things. As with medical procedures, every patient is different and some people who have face lift surgeries must be observed in a hospital setting overnight.
